"American Idol" season 17 returned with a new episode on Sunday, March 31. The episode saw the remaining 40 singers hitting the stage in Hawaii for the Showcase Round. The round saw them flaunting their skills in front of the judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

Kicking off the round was Alyssa Raghu, who opted to sing Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband". She impressed the judges with her new dance moves and was named as the first singer to move onto the Top 20.

Madison later performed "Who's Lovin' You" by The Jackson 5, earning a standing ovation from the judges. Next up was Myra Trap, belting out "How Far I'll Go" from "Moana". Katy thought her performance was a little bit "all over the place." While Madison was sent to the next round, Myra was unfortunately eliminated.

Logan Johnson attempted to impress the judge with a unique performance of Justin Bieber's "Sorry". He sang half of the song in Spanish, blowing the judges' and and audience's mind away. Thanks to his performance, Logan secured a spot in the Top 20. Nate Walker, meanwhile, sang Lionel's song "Still" and got a standing ovation. However, the judges didn't seem to think it was enough for him to be put in the Top 20.

Dimitrius Graham followed it up with a performance of Sam Smith's "Latch". He drove the judges wild and he joined others in the Top 20. As for Ashley Hess, she opted for "Gone Away" by H.E.R. (Gabi Wilson). Despite saying that she didn't feel comfortable singing on a big stage, she was announced to be moving to the next round.

Singing "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 was Drake McCain. He struggled to hit some of his notes. He was unfortunately sent home. Kai the Singer sang "Wild Things" by Alessia Cara, but it was not her best performance. She was eliminated.

Laci Kaye Booth, meanwhile, offered a stunning performance of "Georgia on My Mind". The judges loved what they heard and sent her to the next round. Nick Townsend later belted out James Bay's "Hold Back the River". He was struggling during his performance and was getting the boot during final judgement. Also not making into the Top 20 were Clay Page, Kason Lester and Johanna Jones.

Walker Burroughs hoped he would get a spot in the Top 20 by singing "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer. The judges granted his wish by sending him to the next round. Ryan Hammond then sang "A Song for You" by Donny Hathaway which also earned him a place in the Top 20.

Joining them in the Top 20 were Kate Barnette and Evelyn Cormier, who convinced the judges after performing "Royals" and "No Roots" respectively. Uche also went to the next round after he successfully made the judges raise to their feet with his performance of "Play That Funky Music".

Later Alejandro Aranda hit the stage, singing "Yellow" by Coldplay. He was announced to be one of the Top 20. Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon joined him after earning praises for choosing to sing "Landslide".

Shayy, meanwhile, failed to impress the judges with her performance of "All I Ask" by Adele. Those whose journey had to end after the Showcase Round include Mica Giaconi, Payton Taylor and Idalis.

Riley Thompson tried to show her worth by singing Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart" and it worked as she moved on to the next round. Following her was Raquel Trinidad who sang "Rich Girl". Alongside Shawn Robinson, who belted out "Rock With You", and Bumbly who sang "Baby", Raquel made into the Top 20.

With only three spots left, Wade Cota hit the stage to sing "Work On". Margie Mays opted to sing "All About That Bass" while Eddie Island chose "Don't You Worry Child". Wade and Eddie moved on, but Margie was eliminated.

Laine Hardy and Tyler Mitchell were up for the final spot. Tyler sang "Suitcase" by Steve Moakler, while Laine performed "Come Together" by The Beatles. After much consideration, the judges gave the final spot to Laine. Congratulations to the Top 20!
