Offering his take on the 'At the Club' rapper's controversial claim over the title, the ex-husband of Whitney Houston deems Usher or Chris Brown as a more worthy successor.

AceShowbiz - Bobby Brown has issued a challenge to singer Jacquees to "battle" for the title of King of R&B.

The R&B singer recently proclaimed himself the "king of R&B right now, for this generation" in a video he shared online. "I understand who done came and who done did that and that and that, but now it's my turn - Jacquees - the king of R&B."

And he has been roundly criticised by some of the genres biggest stars including John Legend and Keith Sweat.

Bobby, 49, was interviewed by TMZ as he was leaving Beverly Hills restaurant Via Alloro, and the New Edition singer insisted that if Jaquees wants the title he will have to fight him for it.

"They want the title, they have to battle me," the "Don't Be Cruel" singer told the website. "That's If you want the title, you have to battle me. I didn't really want to talk about it, but I've been seeing it on Instagram and social media and to me, it's like, you want the title, battle me."

"Live on stage. Me vs. anybody. It doesn't matter who it is."

However, Brown dismissed the 24-year-old, real name Rodriquez Jacquees Broadnax, who has worked with Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Young Thug, for not even making it onto his radar. And deemed Usher as a more worthy successor.

"Chris Brown's a bad boy. Usher's a bad boy. If anyone deserves the title, it would be one of them," he smiled. "I turn 50 so, you know, I need to relinquish the title anyway. I'd give it up to Usher. That's like my son."

"He's that good that I think he should battle like Chris Brown. He's (Jacquees) not even recognisable. I don't even know his music."
