Detail about premiere date and episode count is currently unknown, but the cast members of season 1 allegedly will be returning for the sophomore season.

AceShowbiz - The mystery in Maine is still far from the end. Hulu has just handed an early season 2 renewal for anthology drama "Castle Rock" ahead of its season 1 finale.

The streamer announced on Tuesday, August 14 that the series, which is adapted from Stephen King's works, had marked the most successful first-season Hulu Original launch in terms of consumption and reach on the day of its premiere. It also was among the highest view-through rates for a Hulu Original since in its first and second weeks following its July 25 premiere.

Detail about premiere date and episode count is currently unknown. Hulu has also yet to announce which cast members will be returning for the sophomore season. Rumor has it, the entire cast of season 1 is expected to be featured in the upcoming new season. Season 1 stars Andre Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Bill Skarsgard, Jane Levy and Sissy Spacek.

Set in the King multiverse in Main, the physchological horror drama is executive produced by King alongside Bad Robot's J.J. Abrams and Ben Stephenson. Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, who serve as showrunners and exec producers, are set to return for the new season.

Season 2 will offer a separate story from season 1. "Each season is going to be its own self-contained story: beginning, middle and end," Thomason previously explained. "But I think that just as the books do, we want to surprise viewers with the ways in which the stories intersect."

"Just as the places the characters pop up in very unexpected ways throughout the books, that's the kind of anthology that we would like to tell. One of the things about the King universe or multiverse is that some very strange things can happen when it comes to the ways that the stories unfold, and hopefully there'll be surprises along the way in terms of how the anthology works in that way," he added.

"It's pretty delicious that Kathy Bates played both Dolores Claiborne and Annie Wilkes when you really think about that question in the movie adaptations," he concluded. "But I think that there's something for us about being faithful to the way that Steve does it in the books, that almost feels like the anthology format has already been laid out for us."

"Castle Rock" season 1 airs on Wednesdays on Hulu with its finale airing on September 12.
