David Cassidy is hospitalized and his prognosis is bleak. The retired actor and musician was rushed to a Florida hospital earlier this week for multiple organ failure and his condition has been worsening since his admission, TMZ reports.

"It's looking grim," a source tells the site. The 67-year-old needs a liver transplant and is also suffering from kidney failure. Doctors reportedly tell his family that they need to prepare for the worst as his organ is deteriorating. A rep for the former teen heartthrob said on Saturday that David's "currently conscious and surrounded by family."

In an updated report, TMZ says that David is now in ICU and has a breathing tube. A source says of David's condition as of Sunday morning, November 19, "There's really no issue anymore for a transplant. It's futile."

Doctors reportedly have summoned David's immediate family, including his son and ex-wife, back to the hospital for what could be their final visit.

In February, David revealed that he has dementia. "I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming," he told PEOPLE of his diagnosis, after witnessing his grandfather struggle with the disease and his mother "disappear" from the disease herself.

He decided to stop touring to concentrate on his health and happiness. "I want to focus on what I am, who I am, and how I've been without any distractions," he said at the time. "I want to love. I want to enjoy life."

The actor, who is best known for his role as Keith Partridge on the 1970s sitcom "The Partridge Family", also battled substance abuse issues and entered rehab in 2014. In February 2015, he filed for bankruptcy. In October the same year, he was charged for hit-and-run accident that took place in Florida in September. His license had been suspended after he pleaded guilty on a DWI charge following his 2013 arrest in New York.
