David Cassidy reveals he has been diagnosed with dementia. Following his disastrous concert at The Canyon Club in Agoura, California over the weekend, the 66-year-old singer/actor reveals that he's been suffering from the memory loss disease.

"I was in denial, but part of me always knew this was coming," the "I Think I Love You" singer tells PEOPLE of his diagnosis. He also reveals to the publication that both his grandfather and mother battled dementia, saying he witnessed her "disappear" into the memory loss disease until she died at the age of 89.

Of his mother's struggles, he recalls, "In the end, the only way I knew she recognized me is with one single tear that would drop from her eye every time I walked into the room," before adding, "I feared I would end up that way."

Cassidy sparked concerns for his wellbeing following his disturbing performance on Saturday, February 18. In a video obtained by TMZ, the former heartthrob appeared to slur his words, forget his lyrics and nearly fall off the stage during his performance.

Now that he's facing the serious issue, he says he's going to stop touring in order to focus more on his health. "I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I've been without any distractions," he tells PEOPLE. "I want to love. I want to enjoy life."
