Unfortunately, season 1 director/EP Jean-Marc Vallee reportedly will not return to the director's chair for season 2 due to scheduling conflicts.

AceShowbiz - It seems like a second season of HBO's hit limited series "Big Little Lies" is coming sooner than expected. According to TVLine, the network is wasting no time in preparing the sophomore season.

A source tells the site that HBO is eyeing a spring 2018 production start for the smash hit series' season two. After the series snagged eight Emmys, including Outstanding Limited Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Nicole Kidman, it definitely comes as no surprise that HBO and EP/writer David E. Kelley want to repeat the huge success.

The news comes after Kelley previously revealed that the second season was nearing the scheduling stage. Since the freshman season covered all of Liane Moriarty's crime novel, on which the series is based, season 2 requires Kelley to explore the story.

"We're kicking around ideas and trying to lasso the talent [and] get the band back together," Kelley said. "It's just a lot of logistical things. But I'm optimistic because everyone wants to do it. We feel we still have storytelling to do."

Not only HBO and Kelley, the cast, which includes Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Jane Chapman and Laura Dern, has also expressed their excitement of doing a second season. Unfortunately, season 1 director/EP Jean-Marc Vallee reportedly will not return to the director's chair for season 2 due to scheduling conflicts. Sources told TVLine that the show is looking for a female helmer to replace him.

Meanwhile, Whiterspoon has dropped out of "Pale Blue Dot". It looks like the "Legally Blonde" actress exits the project so that she'll be available for "Big Little Lies" filming for the planned second season.

Debuting on April 2, "Big Little Lies" follows the tale of murder and mischief in the tranquil beachfront town of Monterey, California, which was told through the eyes of three doting moms--Madeline, Celeste and Jane. Also starring on the series are Zoe Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgard and Adam Scott.
