AceShowbiz - Lionsgate has set a release date for "John Wick 3". According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has set the third installment of the Keanu Reeves-led action film series to arrive in theaters across the nation in the summer of 2019, on May 17 to be exact.
It's the only film set for that date in the meantime. Disney will release "Avengers 4" two weeks earlier, on May 3, and Sony's TriStar will unveil its adaptation of "The Rosie Project" starring Ryan Reynolds on May 10.
Meanwhile, Disney's live-action "Aladdin", which stars newcomer Mena Massoud as the title character and "Power Rangers" actress Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, and Warner Bros.' "Minecraft", which has Steve Carell attached to star, will be released afterward.
The first "John Wick" film grossed $88 million worldwide ($43 million domestically and $45.7 million internationally) in 2014. That was topped by "John Wick: Chapter 2" earlier this year with $171.5 million worldwide ($92 million domestically and $79.5 million internationally).
In the second film, legendary hitman John Wick is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers.
Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment will distribute "John Wick 3". No plot details about the upcoming threequel have been unveiled just yet. Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first two films, has been confirmed to return to write the third movie. No word yet on who will direct the upcoming action flick.
