Filming on "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" is currently underway, and a new report has emerged suggesting what to expect from the the upcoming film focusing on Sophie Turner's Jean Grey. Simon Kinberg, who is making his directorial debut with the upcoming film, reveals that he wants to "ground" the intergalactic story.
Speaking to Total Film in its October issue, Kinberg says, "[We must] find a way to ground it so it's not too intergalactic." The 44-year-old British-born filmmaker adds that the "X-Men" movies will remain "human" and "emotional" on his watch.
But Kinberg's comments may come as somewhat of a disappointment to some "X-Men" fans, especially those who were hoping "Dark Phoenix" would be the first film in the franchise that would truly embrace some of the wild, cosmic elements of the comic books.
It's still unclear how much Kinberg intends to ground the cosmic story. He is directing the thirteenth installment of the "X-Men" film series from a script he wrote. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters across the nation on November 2 next year.
It reportedly follows Jean Grey (Turner) whose powers are amplified when she comes in contact with a cosmic energy called the Phoenix Force. Rumor has it, Jessica Chastain will take on the role of Lilandra, an alien empress who leads the quest to imprison and execute Dark Phoenix.
In addition to Turner, the returning cast includes James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Nicholas Hoult as the Beast and Alexandra Shipp as Storm.
"The Originals" star Summer Fontana joins the cast to play the younger version of Jean Grey. Earlier this month, it was reported that "Paper Towns" actress Halston Sage might have been cast as Dazzler. The news came after she was rumored to be in contention for the role along with Suki Waterhouse ("The Bad Batch", "Billionaires Boys Club").
