AceShowbiz - Adam Levine wasn't impressed with 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, and he had no problem calling out the show on social media. The Maroon 5 frontman took to Twitter to lash out at the event, calling it "utterly horrible." He wrote, "It's always exciting to see how utterly horrible the VMAs will be. They really delivered so far this year. #HOLYF**K."

The singer also expressed his outrage over MTV cutting Julia Michaels' performance short. Julia, who was nominated for Best New Artist at the show, got her performance cut off halfway through for a commercial break. Shortly after Julia's performance, Lorde took the stage to perform an interpretive dance due to bad flu. It apparently didn't sit well with Adam as he tweeted, "Julia Michaels gets cut off while she's singing and Lorde gets to NOT sing her whole song."

Adam's model wife Behati Prinsloo also took to Twitter to complain about Julia's performance. "Wow @vmas thanks for talking over then cutting to commercial half way through #juliamichaels performance. #votejuliamichaels," she wrote.

Adam has a history of tension with the VMAs. The "Sugar" hitmaker first slammed the network and the show in 2011 when he tweeted, "the VMA's. One day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I'm drawing a line in the sand. f**k you VMA's."

During an interview in 2014, Adam claimed that Maroon 5 felt unwelcome by the VMAs as it took a decade for the band to be invited by the show since winning Best New Artist Award in 2004. "For many years, we felt like the uninvited dinner guests, but after much persistence and perhaps a little too much mouthing off, they seemed to have changed their minds," he said. "So, thank you, MTV."
Adam is currently gearing up for the release of Maroon 5's new song "What Lovers Do" featuring SZA. The song, which is a single off the group's upcoming studio album, will arrive on Wednesday, August 30.
