The effort marks the third rock album to debut atop the list in 2017, following Arcade Fire's 'Everything Now' and Linkin Park's 'One More Light'.

AceShowbiz - Rock band Brand New scores their first No. 1 album on Billboard 200 as "Science Fiction" debuts atop the chart with 58,000 equivalent album units in the week ending August 24, according to Nielsen Music. Making its way out via Procrastinatel Music Traitors label, the effort marks the band's first album in nearly eight years.

"Science Fiction" is the third album by a rock band to lead the chart this year, following Arcade Fire's "Everything Now" and Linkin Park's "One More Light". Brand New made their debut on Billboard 200 in 2003 when "Deja Entendu" landed at No. 63. The group returned to the chart in 2006 with "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me" and in 2009 with "Daisy".

Trailing behind "Science Fiction" is Kodak Black's new effort "Project Baby 2". It bows at No. 2 with 50,000 units, largely fueled by its streaming activity. The album is the rapper's highest-charting effort after "Painting Pictures" started at No. 3 earlier this year.

Kendrick Lamar's double-platinum album "DAMN." dips one slot to No. 3 with 41,000 units, while rock band Neck Deep nabs their first top 10 album with "The Peace and the Panic", which lands at No. 4 with 32,000 units. Ke$ha's new album "Rainbow" descends to No. 5 in its second week with 31,000. Meanwhile, Khalid's "American Teen" falls to No. 6 with 29,000 units and DJ Khaled's "Grateful" slips to No. 7 with 27,000 units.

Former No. 1 Ed Sheeran's "Divide (division sign)" dips to No. 8 with 26,000 units. Other titles making up this week's top 10 are rapper Dave East's "Paranoia: A True Story", which arrives at No. 9 with a little less than 26,000 units, and Imagine Dragons' "Evolve", which dips to No. 10 with 25,000 units.
