'Game of Thrones' Stars and Fans React to the Huge Jon Snow Reveal and the Incest
TV

Co-showrunner D. B. Weiss says the information 'will inevitably, if not tear them apart, at least cause real problems in their relationship.'

AceShowbiz - It's confirmed; Jon Snow is the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark and his birth name is Aegon Targaryen. [SPOILER ALERT!] While Bran and Sam talked about this and viewers at home learned about this, Jon was still in the dark about his true parentage and consummated his brooding feelings with Daenerys, who is actually his aunt, in "Game of Thrones" season 7 finale.

Met by EW on the set in Seville, Spain last fall, Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington talked about how their characters will react if they find out about this. "Ewwwww!" she loudly cried and laughed, adding, "I think that's how it's going to go. I get the toothbrush-" while pretending to frantically brush her tongue.

When being pointed out that Dany has long assumed she'll avoid her family's long predilection for incest, she said, "Exactly! And then I walked back into it." On the possibility of sharing the Iron Throne with Jon, she said, "I've worked so hard, I don't want to share that throne. No. The throne's big enough for one dragon bum, and that's mine. That's it!"

For Harington, he was more concerned about how to ramp up their romance in a realistic way with their scenes in four episodes. "Usually you go into a movie and meet [your co-star] for the first time and you develop that chemistry over that time," he shared. "But if you've known somebody for seven years and shared this incredible journey in your own lives together ... we're both kind of freaking out about it. I would be like, 'What's the sexual tension in this scene?' and she's like, 'Stop talking about sexual tension!' It's a unique experience to be in as an actor and you know the world is watching."

Clarke weighed in, "Yeah [I would say], 'Would you just stop? Just give me some sexy eyes, don't keep talking about sexual chemistry all the time.' " The actress said that Dany started to realize her feelings for Jon when he left for beyond The Wall to capture the wight. "She's just like: Why don't I want you to go? Why don't I want you - doooooon't fall for him. Don't do it! There's a battle going in on herself," she explained.

Harrington kept his lips sealed when asked how the reveal about Jon's true parentage will impact his relationship with Dany. "That part of it, I can't predict," he says, coyly adding, "It could be them walking off into the sunset. It could be them killing each other."

Meanwhile, Jon and Dany shippers were happy with the direction these characters took in their relationship in the season 7 finale. "Season 1: Ewwww incest is disgusting I can't believe this. Season 7: Jon better get all up in his aunt. this.is.everything," one wrote.

Another posted a meme of Jon getting Dany pregnant.

Some others expressed their conflicted feelings about the incest and the reveal with GIFs.

Meanwhile, in a commentary video about the last episode of season 7, showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss explain how the sex and the reveal will complicate things. "It complicates everything on a political level, on a personal level, and it just makes everything that could have been so neat and kind of perfect for Jon and Dany, and it really muddies the waters," says Benioff. Weiss adds that the information "will inevitably, if not tear them apart, at least cause real problems in their relationship."
