AceShowbiz - Dominic West will join Alicia Vikander in the untitled Tomb Raider reboot. The actor is tapped to portray Lord Richard Croft, the father of Vikander's Lara Croft. This is not West's first time to play Vikander's on-screen father. Back in 2014, he also portrayed her father in drama "Testament of Youth".
Lord Richard Croft, an aristocrat and archeologist, is a key figure in "Tomb Raider" reboot, which is still based on the popular video game of the same name. The movie follows the story of Lara Croft. She begins her first expedition to finish her father's research and aims to uncover ancient secrets to clear his father's disgraced name.
In the original "Tomb Raider" movies, Lara Croft was portrayed by Angelina Jolie and her father was played by Jon Voight. The two films, which were released in 2001 and 2003 respectively, grossed $432 million worldwide.
Dominic West is known for his role on HBO's hit series "The Wire". Currently, West is appearing on Showtime's series "The Affair". His film credits include Jodie Foster's "Money Monster" and "Genius" opposite Colin Firth and Jude Law.
Vikander, meanwhile, received an Oscar for her role in "The Danish Girl". She also gained positive reviews for her performance in "Ex Machina". Her other upcoming movies include "Birds Like Us", "Submergence", "Tulip Fever" and "Euphoria".
"Tomb Raider" reboot is set to be released in U.S. theaters on March 16, 2018.
