Based on the memoir of Vera Brittain, this poignant drama stars Alicia Vikander as a bright young woman whose idyllic life is shattered by the outbreak of World War I. Having fought against the expectations of her traditional family to win a place at Oxford, Vera is engaged to the brilliant poet Roland Leighton, played by Kit Harington, and surrounded by a close circle of brilliant young men, including her beloved brother and their friends. As the war sweeps across Europe, Vera watches helplessly as her fiancé and friends are drawn into the brutal conflict, leaving her to grapple with overwhelming grief and loss. Rather than succumbing to despair, she makes the courageous decision to leave her studies behind and serve as a nurse on the front lines, witnessing the true horror of war firsthand. Directed by James Kent, this powerful and heartbreaking film is a sweeping yet intimate exploration of love, loss, and the unbreakable human spirit. It tells a deeply moving story of a woman who finds her own voice and purpose amidst the devastation, transforming her personal tragedy into a powerful testament to peace.
