NBC has decided not to move forward with the pilot starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and now Sony Pictures TV is looking for a new home for the project.

AceShowbiz - NBC has scrapped "Cruel Intentions" reboot plans. The network has decided not to pick up the pilot starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. The project is not dead altogether though, as the studio behind it, Sony Pictures Television, is planning to shop it elsewhere.

Set as a sequel to the 1999 dark drama film, it finds Gellar's Kathryn Merteuil vying for control over both Valmont International and the soul of Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith), the son of her late stepbrother Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) and Annette (Reese Witherspoon), a woman she wronged long ago. Upon discovering his late father's legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.

Kate Levering, Samantha Logan, Sophina Brown, Coby Bell and Bryce Cass were also in the cast. The movie writer/director Roger Kumble and executive producer Neal H. Moritz are on board as executive producers for the TV project.

The "Cruel Intentions" reboot was initially eyed for a summer run on NBC. However, at the May upfronts NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt hinted that it didn't meet their hope as he said the soapy adaptation "a bit of an outlier for us, because there's no other show like it in our list of genres." He added, "We like it, and we're still discussing it and trying to figure it out."

The network has extended the cast's deals throughout December though and NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke told reporters in July that she was "determined to find a place to put it."
