Not even James Packer and Mariah Carey thought the breakup would happen. The Australian billionaire appeared to be head over heels in love with his fiancee and had even asked her to marry him soon before that incident on a yacht.

According to TMZ, Packer expressed desire to spend the rest of his life with Carey in multiple emails he sent just a few weeks before their split. "I'm in love with you and can't wait to get married and be together forever," read one email obtained by the site.

"There's a song I'm listening to now that's got lots of meanings and I hope it makes u smile. When you get caught between the moon and New York City best that you can do is fall in love," Packer continued.

He had even referred to Carey as "MCP" a.k.a. Mariah Carey Packer. "All my love, laughter, light, respect and appreciation and admiration ... Thank you my fiancee and soulmate," he wrote in another email sent with the subject line, "Will U marry me soon MCP pls -:)))))."

Carey and Packer broke up last month following a fight during their vacation in Greece. There have been rumors claiming that her extravagant lifestyle, her closeness with a dancer and his relationship with a former Scientology boss were what caused the separation.

Whatever the cause might be, Carey has been spotted looking happy without Packer. Over the weekend, she was pictured all smiles while celebrating Halloween with her twin kids at Jessica Biel's Au Fudge in West Hollywood. Donning a pair of cat ears and cleavage-baring black top, she still flashed the $10 million engagement ring from Packer though she wore it on her right hand.

However, a source told ET Online that she hadn't been doing really well since the split. "Mariah is traumatized by all of this but is putting on a brave face," the source explained. "She never meant to fall for James."
