Human Rights Foundation's head Thor Halvorssen said the rapper would be 'stealing educational resources and opportunity from young Angolans'.

Not everybody is happy that Nicki Minaj is due to perform in Luanda, the capital of African nation Angola. The Human Rights Foundation has urged the femcee to cancel the appearance because the country is ruled by "dictator" Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

According to her Facebook page, Minaj is set to perform at Show Unitel Boas Festas on Saturday, December 19 in Luanda. Under dos Santos' reign, the country has been accused of violating the basic rights of journalists, activists and others who speak out against government oppression and intimidation. Police sometimes use excessive force to make arbitrary arrests.

Thor Halvorssen, head of the Human Rights Foundation, penned an e-letter to Minaj via Brian Sher of Category 5 Entertainment. "As a strong-willed independent artist, shouldn't you be advocating for the release of the imprisoned rapper Luaty Beirao rather than entertaining the dictator and his thieving family?" Halvorssen said in the letter obtained by THR.

The letter continued, "Ms. Minaj, you are well known for being involved with charities such as the Get Schooled Foundation, which helps motivate young people to graduate from high school and succeed in college. If you move forward with this performance for the dictator and his family, you will be in league with the people stealing educational resources and opportunity from young Angolans."

It also pointed out dos Santos' daughter for being the main beneficiary of the "blood diamond" trade in Angola. Minaj and her camp have not responded to a request for comment.

The foundation was the one responsible for dropping copies of the satirical film "The Interview" into North Korea in an attempt to embarrass Kim Jong Un. Halvorssen also criticized Hilary Swank for attending Chechen "bad guy" Ramzen Kadyrov's birthday party and took money from it. They also attacked Jennifer Lopez when she performed for "crooks and dictators" and got paid $1.5 million by Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in 2013.
