Saying that Carey will likely not play herself, the series co-creator reveals he and his writing team are currently cooking up story for the Grammy Award-winning singer.

AceShowbiz - It has been confirmed that Mariah Carey will guest star in the upcoming season 2 of "Empire", but details of her role were not immediately available. Now, series co-creator Lee Daniels reveals that the R&B diva will likely not play herself on the hit drama.

"I think it would be great to play her but she doesn't want to play her so that's what we're doing," Daniels tells EW. "She's giving us the hard assignment of trying to create a character which we're doing right now. I think she's going to be in our finale, which I'll be directing."

He goes on saying that he is currently still in the process of writing a story that will include Carey. "We are trying to crack a story for her now. As with Mariah, she wants it her way. But as with Lee Daniels, I want it my way," he shares, "So it's the usual back-and-forth with mamacita until we figure out exactly what it's going to be. We're very close to cracking story for her. But we're very excited."

Carey isn't the only A-lister set to guest star on "Empire" season 2. The show has cast Adam Rodriguez as Cookie's (Taraji P. Henson) new love interest, Chris Rock as a prison inmate of Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), Ludacris as a prison guard, Pitbull as himself and Marisa Tomei as Mimi Whiteman, a billionaire lesbian who gets involved with Lucious' family business. Kelly Rowland will also appear in a flashback as Lucious' mother, while Vivica A. Fox was recently tapped to play Cookie's sister.

The new season of drama series kicks off Wednesday, September 23 at 9 P.M. on FOX.
