The 'Crazy, Stupid, Love.' actress is in talks to play Peter Parker's aunt in the upcoming movie which will arrive later this month.

AceShowbiz - Having tapped Tom Holland to portray the new Peter Parker, Marvel and Sony continue their work on completing the cast of its upcoming untitled new Spider-Man movie. According to Variety, Marisa Tomei is now in talks with the studios to play Aunt May in the upcoming movie.

Since the upcoming "Spider-Man" movie will feature a younger version of Peter Parker, the studios seem to look for a younger actress to portray Aunt May for the movie. Therefore, they eye Tomei to share some scenes with Holland.

The role of Aunt May was previously played by Sally Field in Andrew Garfield's "The Amazing Spider-Man" films and Rosemary Harris in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" movie trilogy, which starred Tobey Maguire. Although the new webslinging superhero is expected to make an appearance in upcoming "Captain America: Civil War", it seems like Tomei's character will not appear in the tentpole movie. However, other sources report that "Civil War" will mark the debut of Tomei's Aunt May. There is no official confirmation from the studio as of now.

The new Spider-Man movie, which is slated for a release on July 28, 2017, will be directed by Jon Watts. As of now, the studios are still looking for another scribe to collaborate with Watts in the screen-writing process.

Tomei previously appeared in "The Ides of March", "Crazy, Stupid, Love." and "The Wrestler". She will next be seen in Judd Apatow's comedy "Trainwreck" and Paramount's "The Big Short".
