Taylor Swift just keeps shattering records with her latest album "1989". Days after the video for its single "Blank Space" became the fastest to reach 1 billion views on Vevo, the superstar's fifth studio effort is named the fastest-selling album in over a decade.

According to data from Nielsen Music, "1989" has surpassed 5 million sales in the U.S. alone. It crossed the 5 million mark only 36 weeks after its release back in October 2014. The set becomes the fastest to reach that milestone since Usher's 2004 LP "Confessions" (19 weeks).

Opening at No. 1 on Billboard 200 with more than 1.2 million units, "1989" is Swift's third record to have sold 5 million copies, following 2008's "Fearless" and her 2006 self-titled debut. The new full-length is also the first to hit 5 million sales since 2011, when Adele's "21" achieved the feat in its 42nd week. The British singer's latest release has now sold a total of 11.1 million, Billboard notes.
