Executive producer Jaime Paglia says they decided to go for a fresh new look to let viewers know that the TV series is different from the movies.

AceShowbiz - MTV's "Scream" gives the masked series killer a sort of makeover. In an attempt to tell viewers that the TV series is different from the movies, the show introduces a new Ghostface mask, which picture has been released via Entertainment Weekly.

"The [original] mask is so iconic. If you were to have that mask in a television series, but you weren't following any of the characters [from the original], I believe that would be misleading the audience," executive producer Jaime Paglia explains their decision to go for a fresh new look.

Executive producer Jill Blotevogel reveals that the mask will remind fans of other horror classics. "It evokes some of the Jason hockey mask and the white Michael Myers mask, but it's still first and foremost evocative of the Scream mask. It's sort of a reinvention while also paying homage," he says.

Wes Craven, who directed all "Scream" movies, has given a seal of approval to the new mask. He says, "The new mask is cool and scary and takes the series into a new direction. It also ties into the story, which I won't give away."

"Scream" TV series is set in high school and follows some students: shy popular girl Emma (Willa Fitzgerald), artsy loner Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus), computer geek Noah (John Karna), all-American athlete Will (Connor Weil), ferocious socialite Brooke (Carlson Young), and mysterious new kid Kieran (Amadeus Serafini).

Jason Wiles replaces Joel Gretsch as Sheriff Clark Hudson (Kieran's father), while Tracy Middendorf plays Maggie. Bella Thorne is additionally slated to appear in the first episode.

The new series is set to debut on June 30 on MTV.
