Mikey Madison, who portrayed one of the Ghostface killers in 2022's Scream, shares her thoughts on the devastating impact her character's actions had on fans.

AceShowbiz - Mikey Madison, who debuted as Ghostface in "Scream" (2022), has recently opened up about the profound impact her character's actions had on the fandom. Born in 1999, Madison wasn't aware of the immense legacy of the franchise when she joined the project.

"When I did the film, I wasn't so aware of the huge fan base," she admitted to Collider. "I really naively went into it."

However, after killing beloved Sheriff Dewey Riley (David Arquette), Madison realized the magnitude of her character's actions. "I remember being sad when I realized such a great character would be gone," she said. "And then I realized afterward the heartbreak that so many people felt."

Madison has received backlash from fans, with some expressing anger at her character's role in Dewey's demise. "People have come up to me and said, 'I hate that this happened. I'm mad at you,'" she recalled. "And I'm like, 'I'm so sorry, I didn't write the script!' I didn't want to do it."

Despite the fan reactions, Madison emphasized that she was thrilled to join the Scream franchise. "It was such an interesting, fun reveal," she said of playing Ghostface. "I think those films are so self-aware where the actors know exactly what kind of movie they're in, and you're able to have fun with it."

Madison auditioned for the role for eight months before being cast. She believes it was a significant step forward in her career. "I knew the opportunity was a major step forward for me when the offer first came across my desk," she shared.
