Andrea Pejic has become the first transgender model to grace Vogue magazine. She took to Instagram on Tuesday, April 21 to thank the magazine for giving her the opportunity to appear in four-page spread of the publication's May issue.

Andrea wrote alongside a black-and-white photo from the magazine's spread, "If at the beginning of my career in the modelling industry or half way through it or even this time last year you told me that I would end up having a 4 page feature in AMERICAN VOGUE I would have probably told you 'oh I dunno about that! That might be a bit difficult to achieve in the near future.' In fact I was told by various people many times over that the chances of me ending up on these pages were slim to none."

"So you can only imagine what I'm feeling right now!" she continued, "Thank you #AnnaWintour, #TonneGoodman, #PatrickDemarchelier and #HelenaSuric for making history and having me be part of it but even more importantly for representing a whole social minority and an often forgotten community of women in such an important publication and opening doors for the rest of the fashion industry to do so!"

She also thanked her agency, "Thank you to my agency @thesocietynyc for being the most supportive agency in the world and pulling off the amazing come back! Hair by @shayashual."

In an interview with the magazine, Andrea recalled being bullied by her classmate for being different. "I wanted to stop puberty in its early tracks. I was worried about my feet being too big, my hands being too big, my jawline being too strong," she shared.

The model, who underwent gender-reassignment surgery last year, added, "Society doesn't tell you that you can be trans. I thought about being gay, but it didn't fit. . . . I thought, 'Well, maybe this [the fantasy of living life as a girl] is just something you like to imagine sometimes. Try to be a boy and try to be normal.' "

Besides landing Vogue spread, Andrea is set to represent Make Up For Ever as the first transgender model to land a major beauty campaign.
