Joni Mitchell was rushed to a hospital in L.A. on early Wednesday, April 1 after she was found being unconscious in her own home. She is currently having an intensive treatment and undergoing some tests, but, as stated on her Twitter, she is awake and in good spirits.
A source told TMZ that paramedics rushed to Bel Air, where the legendary singer lives, at around 2:30 P.M. after they received a 911 call. Mitchell was found unconscious but she reportedly regained consciousness on the way to the hospital.
Mitchell is a longlife smoker who was once quoted as saying that "six decades of smoking have robbed me of my voice." She also has a long history with some diseases including polio when she was 8 years old, unnamed disorder that caused her sob easily, chronic illness and a rare skin disease.
It was only last year she finally opened up about her rare skin disease to Billboard Magazine, saying that she suffered from Morgellons disease, which prevented her from performing. The disease is a rare, mysterious and controversial disease that attacks the nervous system and makes sufferers feel like there are parasites living under the skin.
Despite the disease, Mitchell had big success with her four-disc box set released last year. She also appeared at Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party in February.
The 70-year-old Mitchell became a music icon during the late 1960s and early 1970s with songs like "Big Yellow Taxi", "Both Sides Now" and "Woodstock". She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Her most recent album of original music, "Shine", was released in 2007.
