Idina Menzel and John Legend are added as musical guests at the upcoming Super Bowl XLIX on February 1. The "Let It Go" hitmaker is tapped to sing the National Anthem, while the "All of Me" crooner is billed to belt out the patriotic "America the Beautiful". They will be supported by actress Treshelle Edmond who will perform the two songs in American Sign Language.
Menzel is still riding high on the success of her film "Frozen (2013)" and Broadway show "If/Then" due to close in March. She joins such great performers as Alicia Keys, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, and Christina Aguilera who have sung "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the big event.
Legend is hot on the heels of his Golden Globe win for his "Selma" theme song with rapper Common, "Glory" which is nominated for an Oscar as well. He follows in the footsteps of Ray Charles, Mary J. Blige, Marc Anthony, Faith Hill, Queen Latifah, Lea Michele, and Jennifer Hudson to sing "America the Beautiful".
The 49th annual NFL championship will take place at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Katy Perry is set to entertain the sports enthusiasts during the halftime show, with Lenny Kravitz confirmed as one of her special guests. Last year, the event drew more than 112.2 million viewers in the U.S., making it the most-watched television program in history.
