AceShowbiz - The list of 2015 Independent Spirit Award nominations was announced on Tuesday, November 25 with Alejandro G. Inarritu's black comedy "Birdman" on the lead. Others that scored multiple nods for next year's gala are "Nightcrawler", "Selma" and "Boyhood".
"Birdman", which follows the story of an actor as he struggles to mount a Broadway play, is nominated in six fields. Lead star Michael Keaton is up for Best Actor, Inarritu is up for Best Director, Edward Norton is nominated for Best Supporting Actor while Emma Stone is nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
The other aforementioned contenders had five nods each. "Birdman", "Boyhood", "Love Is Strange", "Selma" and "Whiplash" are competing for the coveted Best Feature category. "Inherent Vice" and "Foxcatcher" unfortunately are left out of the nominations because they are not eligible under Film Independent guidelines. They would be given honorary awards instead.
The 30th Annual Independent Spirit Awards will be held at a casual luncheon on California's Santa Monica beach on February 21, a day before the Oscars ceremony takes place. Winners of the indie awards traditionally also take honors at the Oscars.
Partial list of 2015 Indie Spirit Awards nominations is below, while the full nominees can be found on the official site.
