Lauren Christy says Kris Allen should 'avoid trying to be rock,' while Howard Benson claims otherwise, stating the need for the winner of 'American Idol' to make 'a real active rock record.'

AceShowbiz - Following Kris Allen's victory in "American Idol" season eight, there are many talks on the street about what kind of album he should be recording, and several powerhouse producers have come out, offering their thought on that matter. Lauren Christy says he has the look and voice to become a great pop singer, while Howard Benson advices him to make "a real active rock record."

"Kris is a heartthrob for the girls and has the looks and voice to carry a great pop career," Lauren who is the member of production team The Matrix tells MTV. "You could liken him to Nick Lachey or Adam Levine from Maroon 5."

Lauren is also intrigued by the idea of Kris going country. However, for what the 23-year-old singer should not do for his first post-Idol effort, Lauren claims that he "needs to avoid trying to be rock and songs that are too rangy for him."

Contrary to Lauren's last statement, Howard who has produced Chris Daughtry's album notes that Kris indeed has some pop-rock vibes. "When Jason Mraz writes a great pop song, he writes a smash," the producer explains. "Kris I like a lot, but he might have the hardest job. It's easy for him to make a passive record. You need a real active rock record."

Elsewhere, Kris Allen tells Access Hollywood that he will not make country album despite the fact that he sang with Keith Urban during the Idol finale on May 20. "That's not my cup of music and not the feeling that I want in my album," he confesses, adding that he respects Keith and enjoys performing with him.

Additionally, Kris explains to Billboard that the only thing he wants to do "is just be respected in the music industry." He adds, "Whether that means selling albums or winning Grammys or just people liking my music, that's all I really want to do."
