Russian-German DJ/record producer Zedd is undoubtedly one of the brightest EDM artists as all of his songs become hits soon after the release. His latest single, "The Middle", is not an exception. The track gained people's attention as it combines electronic and country. It's also because he brings an unlikely collaborator for the track, country singer Maren Morris.
"The Middle", which also features Grey, received positive reviews from music critics, with Madeline Roth of MTV calling the song "a poppy earworm." She also said that the track "is catchy as hell and practically destined for radio domination." The song itself peaked at No. 17 on Billboard Hot 100 and ruled three Billboard's Dance/Electronic charts.
Promoting the single, the 28-year-old heartthrob said in a press release that the three of them "worked really hard on this record to get it just right." Maren also said that the single "is reflective of my many influence as an artist -- a little bit country, little pop, little R&B, relatable, emotional and catchy as hell. There are no limits with this song."
Zedd, along with Maren and Grey, debuted the performance for the track at the 60th Grammy Awards, which took place on January 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The music video treatment, which was directed by Dave Meyers, was premiered during the performance.
If you think Zedd will not release new music anytime soon after "The Middle", you're wrong. The "Clarity" hitmaker is currently gearing up for a collaboration with another unlikely artist, Matthew Bellamy of Muse.
"I've started a new record with Matthew from Muse," so Zedd told Zane Lowe of Beats 1. "We started towards the end of last year it's super exciting project for both of us because he's never co-written a song with anybody and I don't know if he's actually done anything outside of Muse."
During the interview, he also said that he wrote a lot of cinematic pieces of music, which could hopefully be used in a new project such as a score for a film or TV show.

Born Anton Zaslavski, Zedd was raised in Kaiserslautern, Germany by two classically trained musicians. He began playing the piano at the age of four and built up his knowledge of the Classical repertoire throughout his childhood. At age twelve, he learned to play the drums and, soon after, he began performing with the post-hardcore/metal trio Dioramic. As a pre-teen he was already composing and producing numerous rock songs in his band's own studio. He started getting interested in electronic music in 2009 after hearing the French electronic duo Justice. » more
