U2

U2 proves to the world that age is just a number. The Irish rock band, who debuted in 1976, is still going strong as ever as their fourteenth studio album "Songs of Experience" launches at No. 1 on Billboard 200 chart with 186,000 equivalent album units. The set marks the largest sales week of any rock band in the United Stated in 2017.

"The songs on this album can be best be understood as me thinking what do I want to say to the people that I most love," frontman Bono said of the album. "On this album are letters written by me to my family, my friends, the people who come to U2 shows."

It appeared that the "letters" had moved the heart of many people as Rolling Stone dubbed the album the third best album of 2017. According to the news outlet, the decision came as the effort "finds the band coming to terms with a world closer to the brink than at any time during their career." Additionally, they harnessed "their earnest post-punk past to their remarkable facility for modern pop gestures."

Prior to releasing the effort, U2 embarked on a world tour called "The Joshua Tree Tour 2017", which was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their 1987 album "The Joshua Tree". During the tour, the band played all of the songs off the fifth studio album, marking the first live performance of track "Red Hill Mining Town".

The tour, which kicked off on May 12 and wrapped up on October 25, received critical acclaim from music critics, many of whom praised the band's performances, the production as well as the setlist. The band won Top Boxcore Awards at the 2017 Billboard Touring Awards for the tour. Rolling Stones also included the said tour as one of the greatest tours of the year.

U2 BIO

Irish rock band U2 began its tale when in autumn 1976, the 14-year-old Larry Mullen, Jr. posted a note on his secondary school, Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, bulletin board, seeking musicians for a new band. Four friends responded and joined up, they were Bono (b. Paul David Hewson on May 10, 1960, in Dublin, Eire); Dave Evans (aka the Edge, b. August 8, 1961, in Barking, Essex, England); Dik Evans who is the brother of David "the Edge" Evans; and Adam Clayton (b. March 13, 1960, in Chinnor, Oxfordshire, England). All of the joined personnel resulted in a 5-piece band, known at the time as Feedback, consisting of Mullen (b. March 13, 1960, in Chinnor, Oxfordshire, England) on drums, Adam Clayton on bass guitar, Bono on vocals, and Dave Evans and his brother Dik on guitar. » more
