A-ha is a renowned Norwegian synth-pop band formed in Oslo in 1982, consisting of Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, Magne Furuholmen, and Morten Harket. The band achieved international fame in the mid-1980s, becoming a prominent figure in the New Wave genre. They are best known for their iconic single "Take On Me," which was released in 1985 and featured on their debut album, "Hunting High and Low." This track not only topped charts globally but also became a defining anthem of the era, showcasing their unique blend of pop and synthesizer-driven sound.

The roots of A-ha can be traced back to the band's formation in the early 1980s, when Waaktaar-Savoy and Furuholmen began crafting music together. After recruiting Harket as their lead vocalist, they quickly gained traction in the Norwegian music scene. "Hunting High and Low," their debut album, was released in 1985 and marked their breakthrough, reaching number one in Norway, number two in the UK, and number 15 on the US Billboard chart. The success of this album established A-ha as a household name, leading to a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist and solidifying their position in pop music history.

Following the success of their debut, A-ha continued to release a series of albums throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, including "Scoundrel Days" in 1986, "Stay on These Roads" in 1988, and "East of the Sun West of the Moon" in 1990. Notable singles from these records, such as "The Living Daylights," "Crying in the Rain," and "Hunting High and Low," further propelled their popularity. However, after the release of their fifth studio album, "Memorial Beach," in 1993, the band faced challenges in maintaining their commercial success, leading them to take a hiatus.

In 1998, A-ha reunited for a performance at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, marking the beginning of their resurgence. They released their sixth album, "Minor Earth Major Sky," in 2000, which topped the charts in Norway and Germany. This was followed by a series of albums, including "Lifelines" (2002), "Analogue" (2005), and "Foot of the Mountain" (2009), each contributing to their enduring legacy in the music industry. The band's ability to adapt to changing musical landscapes while retaining their signature sound has been a key factor in their longevity.

After a brief split following their 2010 "Ending on a High Note Tour," A-ha reunited in 2015 to release their tenth studio album, "Cast in Steel." They continued to tour and celebrate their three-decade legacy, performing at significant events such as Rock in Rio. Throughout their career, A-ha has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, earning a place in the Guinness World Records for drawing the largest paying audience at a rock concert, with 198,000 attendees at Maracanã Stadium during Rock in Rio.

Most recently, A-ha released their eleventh studio album, "True North," on October 21, 2022, demonstrating their ongoing creativity and relevance in the music scene. With a rich catalog of hits and a loyal fan base, A-ha remains a pivotal force in the pop genre, continuously inspiring new generations of music lovers.
