Barbara Walters Announces Retirement on 'The View': I'm Perfectly Healthy
May 14, 2013 10:05:30"The View" played a tribute footage to Barbara Walters on Monday, May 13 before she gracefully addressed her retirement plan. "I have been on television continuously for over 50 years," she started her announcement. "But in the summer of 2014, a year from now, I plan to retire from appearing on television at all. It has been an absolutely joyful, rewarding, challenging, fascinating, and occasionally bumpy ride and I wouldn't change a thing."
Assuring that she's "perfectly healthy," she added, "This is my decision. I've been thinking about it for a long time and this is what I want to do." She said that she would remain executive producing "The View", but she didn't "want to appear on another program. I don't want to climb another mountain. I want instead to sit in a sunny field and admire the very gifted women, and okay, some men too, who will be taking my place."

Barbara Walters Coyly Addresses Retirement Rumors

On Monday, April 1, the veteran journalist said on "The View", "There were many reports last week that I was retiring from ABC and there was an assumption that I would be making an announcement today. The paparazzi were outside my home today... however, here I am, and I have no announcement to make."
Withouth denying nor confirming if she has such plans or not, the 83-year-old added, "But I do want to say this: that if and when I might have an announcement to make, I will do it on this program, I promise, and the paparazzi guys - you will be the last to know."

Report: Barbara Walters Plans to Retire From 'The View' in 2014
March 29, 2013 11:03:54Rumor has it, Barbara Walters' departure from "The View" is imminent. The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline learn that the ABC News veteran plans to leave the talk show that she created in May 2014.
Walters may announce her retirement in the coming weeks and stay through the next season of "The View". The show is expected to give a big send-off and present other related specials in the weeks leading to her exit that would celebrate her 52-year broadcast career.

Squashing off the rumor, the veteran journalist said, "There is a particularly false story that keeps getting picked up about Elisabeth's alleged departure, saying that we don't approve of her conservative views. The truth is, we love Elisabeth. I like her personally, and she's just a wonderful person."
She added, "But beyond that, we value and appreciate her point of view...because Elisabeth helps give the show perspective and balance. And believe me, she's tougher than she looks. She has to be, to sit here for a decade and take the kind of guff we give her." Walters went on stressing, "So we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave the show."

Brooke Shields May Join 'The View' as New Co-Host

According to Showbiz 411, sources say that the wife of writer Chris Henchy fulfills all the qualifications needed. A French literature graduate from Princeton university, Shields is very articulate. Thus, she is believed to be able to discuss wide range of topics with other existing members, Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
News of Shields' possible casting comes after Joy Behar announced she would leave the show by the end of the current season. An original cast member, Behar decided to leave the New York talk show on March 8 after serving as the co-host for 16 years. "You can't stay forever on a show," Behar said on ABC's "Good Morning America". "I am graciously exiting stage left. I've put in 16 years and felt the time was right. I want to explore other opportunities."

Rumors of Hasselbeck's exit started to spread as a so-called insider told Us Weekly, "The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing. People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed." She was said to be leaving the talk show at the end of the current season.

The co-host of "The View" admitted to have ripped major fart on the daytime talk show, but ABC later claimed she was just kidding. "It was a joke. Every time there is a fun noise she pretends it was her," so the network's executives tell The Huffington Post.
On Friday morning, December 16, Goldberg and other "The View" co-hosts were interviewing Claire Danes about her Showtime's series "Homeland" when a loud sound of what seems to be a fart distracted their conversation. "How polite!" said Danes with a laugh before Goldberg quickly claimed the sound came from her, "Oh, excuse me! I think I just blew a little frog out of there!"

Known as the White House party crashers, Michaele and her husband claimed Whoopi hit her from behind, prompting the host to drop the F-bomb several times at her after the show was wrapped.
As evident from the footage which is posted below, Michaele's claim was without its merit. At about minute 1:55, Michaele was startled by a touch from behind which turned out to be non-participating host Whoopi. "Excuse me, can you get back to the White House, please," Whoopi who came from backstage said.

July 16, 2010 01:07:36The June 22 episode of "The View" is still an issue for GLAAD. The gay supporter group responded to ABC's statement to CNN which clarified the discussion of HIV and AIDS whereby gay African American male are said held responsible for the transmission of the deadly disease.
Comedian D.L. Hughley co-hosted the show in the particular episode, bringing up the issue of "down low" men aka closeted men who have sex with another male and do not tell their girlfriends. "It's primarily young women who are getting it from men who are on the down low," Hughley said speaking about the prevalence of HIV in the African-American community.
