David Letterman and Craig Ferguson Extend Deals to Stay on CBS Through 2014
April 04, 2012 09:04:14David Letterman and Craig Ferguson are staying on CBS until at least the next two years. The two hosts have signed contracts with the network that will keep their shows, "Late Show with David Letterman" and "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" respectively, on the air through 2014.
"David Letterman is a late-night legend with an iconic show and Craig Ferguson continues to evolve the genre in exciting and innovative ways," said CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler. "These new agreements deliver ongoing high-quality entertainment for our audience and continued strength and stability for CBS in late night."

Still wearing a shirt, pinstripes and a tie, the "Late Show with David Letterman" host held a ball steady so that Murray, who was donning a football player costume, could kick it. Meanwhile, the former "Live! with Regis and Kelly" host, Philbin, looked excited as he played a referee.

Words are, the network has authorized the 64-year-old comedian's production company, Worldwide Pants, to make new agreements with the key members of "Late Show with David Letterman" staff, producers and writers.
"That means a final deal with Dave is very close," one of the executives involved in the negotiations told The New York Times. Should he seal the new two-year deal, Letterman will surpass Johnny Carson's 30-year run as the longest host in late-night TV history.

Regis Philbin Falls Off Vespa During David Letterman's Show Taping
November 18, 2011 09:11:50Regis Philbin has returned David Letterman's favor by visiting his late-night show just a day after David appeared as a guest on "Live with Regis and Kelly". On Thursday afternoon, November 17, Regis taped his appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman", during which he had a small accident with a Vespa.
Regis fell off the red scooter when he just rode it for a few feet on the New York City streets. Donning a helmet, the 80-year-old presenter got a hand from a crew member to get back on his feet, but insisted that he is "fine." He then completed his stint with David taking him for a cruise in New York's Times Square.

The 42-year-old aspiring musician used a newspaper box to break multiple glass panes at about 1 A.M. He was tackled by a golf club-wielding security guard, "who called the cops and told them we have another copycat." Kelly added that the copycat vandal was aware of the previous break-in attempt and did the crime to help his music career.

"It's not just a talk show, this is an active crime scene," he said during his monologue. "I'm told now that Jay [Leno] has an alibi."
The 64-year-old comedian then showed "security footage" of the incident to audience, claiming he had not watched it before. But the fake tape captures Paul Shaffer, the leader of Letterman's late night show band, cursing Letterman and rampaging through the lobby with a baseball bat. "You stole about 28 years of my whole life," Shaffer shouted in the fake footage.

The 22-year-old man was arrested for breaking into and trashing the entrance of the building after police responded to a 911 call of a burglary at around 7 A.M. He reportedly kicked the doors with his feet and upended trash cans, but he did not harm the set of the late night show.
