Michael declares today the best or the worst day of his life. He knows Holly gave AJ an ultimatum to marry her or break up with her and he's anxious to see what happened. Because Michael knows himself so well, he knows he'll react insane either way. He makes a video message to himself to help calm his future nerves.

Holly returns to work without a ring on her finger. Michael is elated, as are his co-workers. Holly calls out her co-workers for knowing about the ultimatum. Michael rushes to his office and gets out his happy box with confetti and champagne. Michael and Erin dance in celebration.

Pam wants to bring the office together more and proposes a resolution board, where her co-workers can write down their New Year's resolutions. Dwight writes that he wants to meet more loose women, and Andy likes that resolution, too. Darryl offers to help the guys meet more women.

Michael overhears Holly talking to someone about seeing a movie, ending the conversation with "I love you." Confused over where Holly stands with AJ, Michael turns to Pam, who encourages him to talk to Holly and get some answers. Phyllis offers to help by talking to Holly herself. Michael tells Phyllis to bring Erin to balance the conversation out.

Phyllis and Erin find out that AJ and Holly are still an item, news which disappoints Michael. When Pam tries to celebrate the office's commitment to New Year's resolutions, Michael's attitude ruins her celebration. Michael calls everybody pathetic for not sticking to their resolutions. Angry, Holly leaves the conference room, knowing all of Michael's behavior is stemming from what she told Phyllis and Erin earlier.

Michael calls Creed and Kevin into his office and asks Holly to come in too, in her capacity as HR rep. He apologizes for his conference room behavior. While directing his conversation to the two guys, Holly realizes this is Michael's way of apologizing to her. Meanwhile, Pam's mad that her big resolutions project was a bust.
