Dale reads Bill's old Army medical files and finds out that the Army performed tests on him many years ago. They realize that everything wrong in Bill's life (e.g. weight gain, depression, wife leaving him) is a side effect of the medical testing. Bill is relieved that someone else is to blame for all his problems and gets drunk celebrating. He later seeks revenge by stealing a tanker during a war games simulation. The guys are determined to save Bill's military career by getting the tank back to the base.
When they make it back to the base, Dale mentions the evil "placebo" drug the Army tested on Bill. Hank informs him though, that a placebo is a fake medication, and Bill was not a medical experiment and has no one to blame but himself for his problems. Bill, however, doesn't have time to mope because the guys have found themselves caught in the middle of the war games. Bill devises a courageous plan for them to escape. He tells the guys to climb out the bottom hatch and when it's safe, he'll rig the throttle and climb out last. Bill miraculously survives and reinstates some confidence in himself as a soldier.
