After the full cast for the upcoming animated musical is announced, fans of the 'American Idol' judge are enraged that the Barbadian songstress replaces the 'Daisy' singer as the voice of Smurfette.

AceShowbiz - Rihanna's casting in the new "The Smurfs" movie has ruffled some feathers. Katy Perry's fans are enraged after learning that the Barbadian beauty is tapped to voice Smurfette, who was voiced by the "Unconditional" singer in the previous two movies.

"...WAS KATY PERRY BUSY?!?!? IM SORRY I LOVE RIHANNA BUT THIS IS KATY PERRY'S ROLE," one fan fumed on X, formerly known as Twitter. Another wanted the "California Gurls" singer back for the upcoming movie, saying, "Love Rihanna but we want Katy's voice ! She killed her role in Smurf's."

Puzzled by the casting choice, a third critic demanded an explanation as asking, "Why her tho? The last voice actor quit or something?"

Some others welcomed the change in casting. "I'm loving this new tradition of having a famous pop singer voice Smurfette! First Katy and [Demi Lovato], now Rihanna?! The girls are thriving," one of the supporters commented. "only legends voice smurfette, katy, demi and now rhi," another pointed out.

Meanwhile, Rihanna's fans are just happy that the star will be releasing new music for the movie. "Rihanna voicing Smurfette and creating original music for the 'Smurf's' movie sounds like a perfect combination," one person gushed.

"Rihanna voicing Smurfette and creating original music for the 'Smurfs' movie coming out in February 2025 sounds like an exciting collaboration! Her talent and creativity are sure to bring a fresh and vibrant energy to the beloved characters," another added, as someone else shared their excitement, "Can't wait to hear her original music for the Smurfs movie."

To be fair, Perry was never cast in the upcoming "Smurfs" movie. The project also has nothing to do with the previous movies that featured the 39-year-old singer. She previously voiced Smurfette in "The Smurfs" (2011) and its sequel "The Smurfs 2" (2013), which were both made in collaboration by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation.

Meanwhile, Rihanna's new "Smurfs" movie is made in collaboration between Paramount and Nickelodeon. The Fenty Beauty founder's casting in the film was first announced in 2023, when she made a surprise appearance at that year's CinemaCon.

At this year's CinemaCon, Paramount chief Brian Robbins announced an all-star cast for the movie that includes Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Dan Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Mariduena with Kurt Russell and John Goodman. He also praised Rihanna as "the most legendary Smurfette ever."

The upcoming movie, which does not yet have an official tittle, is scheduled for a February 14, 2025 release in the United States.
