'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition' Receives R Rating

The Motion Picture Association of America noted in its bulletin that the extended Blu-ray version would be different from its theatrical release.

AceShowbiz - When "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits the screen this March 25, it would be a PG-13. But Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder have prepared an R-rated extended version of the movie for home viewers.

According to a couple of tweets from reliable source Stitch Kingdom, the "Ultimate Edition" Blu-ray has been rated R for violence reasons. Meanwhile, the theatrical version was given the PG-13 rating back in September for "intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality." There's a chance the bonus material will feature some badass fighting sequences.

In its bulletin to announce the movies they have recently rated, the Motion Picture Association of America noted under "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition" that "EDITED VERSION. CONTENT IS DIFFERENT FROM PG-13 VERSION." WB is yet to comment on the report. At this point, it is also unclear how much extra scenes will be added into the theatrical version which runs for 2 hours and 31 minutes.

Late last year, star Ben Affleck told French magazine Studio Cine Live that death and violence became a big theme in the movie. "It's more than just entertainment, it's also trying to show that there are real consequences to violence," Affleck said of the movie's vision. "When a building collapses, people die, and those are lives lost forever."

While it might be an odd move to give a stronger version for the Blu-ray, DVD and download release, it certainly had been done before. "The Hobbit" movies all have extended versions in R-rated range. Besides, box office hit "Deadpool" has been breaking boundaries with its profanity, brutality and sex content.
