James Wan Officially Announced to Direct 'Aquaman'

The 'Furious 7' director is set to direct DC superhero movie 'Aquaman' and is additionally in talks to helm Sony Picture's 'Robotech'.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. Pictures has just announced that James Wan is officially set to helm an upcoming DC superhero movie, "Aquaman". In addition to directing, Wan will be supervising the script which will be written by Kurt Johnstad ("300", "300: Rise of an Empire").

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder are set to produce the movie. President of creative development and worldwide production for Warner Bros. Pictures., Greg Silverman, said about the movie, "The 'Aquaman' film will be a major tentpole picture for us, and James' span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material."

Silverman also expressed excitement of Wan's involvement in movie. "We've been so lucky to have worked with James, first on New Line's 'The Conjuring' and now on their 'The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist', and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate," Silverman said, mentioning other projects helmed by Wan.

"Aquaman" stars Jason Momoa ("Game of Thrones") as the titular superhero. It will focus on the sea-dwelling superhero as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.

Besides the Aquaman project, Wan is currently in talks to direct Sony Pictures Entertainment mech movie "Robotech". He is also eyed by Universal to work on the next "Fast and Furious" film. Wan becomes high in-demand after helming the successful car-race-themed movie "Furious 7" which grossed over $1.5 billion in global box office.
