"Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage," says showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. "We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life." According to Marvel.com, Jones will encounter the enigmatic Luke Cage, a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.

Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television, adds, "Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we've found the perfect actor. Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in 'Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones', and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos."

Colter is expected to reprise the role on another Netflix series focusing on Luke Cage. The project is part of a massive deal between Netflix and Marvel which also includes "Daredevil" and "Iron Fist" series and culminates in "The Defenders" miniseries featuring all four heroes.

"Jessica Jones" follows the title character who hangs her costume after suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. She then works as a private investigator. It is slated to premiere in 2015. Krysten Ritter has been cast in the lead role.

Colter has a recurring role as Lemond Bishop on "The Good Wife" and has guest starred on "American Horror Story: Coven". He is currently starring on XBox's original series "Halo: Nightfall" as Jameson Locke.
