AceShowbiz - Charles Keating, a British actor who is best known for his role as villainous Carl Hutchins on NBC's "Another World", passed away on August 9 after a long battle with cancer. He was 72.

Charles' co-star on "Another World", Alicia Coppola, confirmed the sad news on Twitter on Saturday. She tweeted, "Charles Keating has passed. I am so very sad. Along w/ @LindaDano he was my very first acting teacher. The actress I am is because of them."

Meanwhile, another co-star, Mark Pinter, paid tribute to Charles by posting a quote from Hamlet on Facebook, "RIP - Charles Keating - 'He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again.' " Mark also changed his cover photo on the social media site to Charles' photo.

Charles, who was born on October 22, 1941 in London, England, began his career as a stage actor. He appeared with Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon before moving to TV. In 1996, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work on "Another World". He also starred on other daytime soap operas like "All My Children" and "As the World Turns".

Besides soap operas, Charles also had guest appearances on other television series like "Xena", "Alias", "The Equalizer", and "Sex and the City". The veteran actor also appeared in some movies, including 1992's "The Bodyguard", 1999's "The Thomas Crown Affair" and 2005's "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo".

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary, and two sons.
