The 'Safety Not Guaranteed' actress tries to grab Ferrell's golden popcorn on stage, but the actor holds it strongly and she ends up going back to her seat empty-handed.
Aubrey Plaza reportedly was ejected from 2013 MTV Movie Awards after making a surprising act at the event on Sunday, April 14. During Will Ferrell's acceptance speech for his Comedic Genius Award, she went up to the stage and grabbed Ferrell's Golden Popcorn.
The actor did not let the statue go. He asked Plaza, "What's happening? Are you ok?" but the actress did not say anything. Shortly after, she ended the struggle and went back to her seat at the front row.
"Aubrey Plaza, everyone! Just like we rehearsed it. Perfect, it was perfect. Not too long, not too short. Right on the money," Ferrell said after Plaza took her seat. However, MTV producers apparently were not happy with Plaza's stunt. MTV confirmed via Twitter that Plaza's act was unplanned. According to E! News, the show's producers asked her to leave after the incident.
Minutes after he went down the stage, the "Anchorman" actor told MTV News, "Well I went up there and I started talking and Aubrey Plaza ran up onstage. And I think she wanted to tell me something important, but there was no message. It was just a lot of hot liquor breath. And, then, and a little bit of sweat. And then she ran away. But the ship sailed on."
Viewers started to compare Plaza's stunt with Kanye West's. One Twitter user wrote, "Did Aubrey Plaza just try to Kanye West Will Ferrell's speech? What was that? #movieawards." Another tweeted, "Aubrey Plaza just tryed to pull a Kanye on Will Ferrell, and failed. I don't think she will remeber tomorrow. #MTVMA." Another person commented, "I'm pretty sure Aubrey Plaza was hammered, she tried to 'Kanye' Will Ferrell and take his award and then dropped her drink when she sat down."
Kanye West previously interrupted Taylor Swift's award acceptance speech at 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. He went to the stage, took Swift's microphone and told the audience that Beyonce Knowles had one of the best music videos of all time. Beyonce, who won Video of the Year award at the event, invited Swift back on stage and let her finish her speech.
