Fox has not officially renewed "Bones". But assuming there is season 7, people have been wondering how Emily Deschanel's pregnancy will be accommodated on the show since the Temperance Brennan depicter is due to deliver in late summer/early fall. Suggesting a solution to the matter, executive producer Hart Hanson said in a conference call this Monday, April 18, "Season 7 would probably be a curtailed season in some respects; we don't know how much yet."
Hanson, however, noted that there are still "a lot of decisions to make" about the upcoming season. He said, "Do we do shows without Emily, do we simply shut down when Emily is not available and just do 16 or 18 episodes or do we do a few episodes without her," all of the them are possible.
Hanson went one explaining, "One possibility, if we had enough scripts in the pipeline, would have been to keep [production] going through the summer, and take the hiatus when Emily went to have her baby." He quickly added, "But we don't have any scripts... because we haven't been picked up."
On how Emily's pregnancy could impact the series' future, Hanson said, "We have had multiple production conversations with the studio but in the end, the network will weigh in heavily." He elaborated, "For example, were we to do four episodes without Emily, is the network interested in that for Bones or does their testing show that that would hurt the show? Those are all conversations we haven't had yet that I have to be ready for any one of those contingencies of what the Bones show will look like in Season 7."
Still, the 53-year-old is "very confident we will come to a deal." He shared, "I imagine [a renewal] could be anywhere between now and May 15," before adding, "Are we going to make 16, are we going to make 18 are we going to make 22 episodes? Those are all the models that are going through."
"Bones" airs every Thursday at 9:00 P.M. on Fox. The season 6 finale will air May 19.
