With David Leslie Johnson aboard as screenwriter, Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way is developing a Gothic re-imagining of the famous fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

AceShowbiz - Famous fairy tale about a young girl's encounter with a wolf, "The Girl with the Red Riding Hood", is getting a big screen treatment, but there is a catch. Variety reported that Appian Way, the Leonardo DiCaprio's production company which is developing the movie, eyes to add a Gothic twist into the story.

According to the publication, Appian trusted the penning of the script work to David Leslie Johnson, the Frank Darabont's assistant in "The Green Mile". The Warner Bros.-based banner has worked together with the screenwriter when he provided the script of the July-released horror thriller "Orphan".

"Little Red Riding Hood" was made famous in the 19th century by the Brothers Grimm. The classic tale tells the story of a wolf who disguises himself to trick a girl delivering food to her grandmother. While the feature film project has been developed internally at Appian Way, it isn't being positioned as a possible acting vehicle for the three-time Academy Award-nominated DiCaprio.

Beside this proposed film, Appian has partnered with Phoenix Pictures in producing thriller "Shutter Island". Set to be released on October 2 in the U.S., the drama thriller is directed by Martin Scorsese and starred by DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Michelle Williams and Ben Kingsley.
