Mary-Kate Olsen and Alex Pettyfer to Join Vanessa Hudgens in 'Beastly'

Both Mary-Kate Olsen and Alex Pettyfer have been recruited to play the witch and the handsome-turns-beast respectively for movie 'Beastly', joining Vanessa Hudgens.

Mary-Kate Olsen and Alex Pettyfer have been signed up to play in movie "Beastly". The two young actors will join a previously-announced cast Vanessa Hudgens for the modern-day take on "Beauty and the Beast".

Olsen will portray a transfer student and witch named Kendra Hilferty who curses Pettyfer's character, an arrogant man named Kyle Kingsbury who has no mercy for anyone poorer, less handsome or less popular than he is. As for Hudgens, she will play Linda Owens, the fair maiden who releases Kyle from Kendra's spell.

Based on Alex Flinn's young-adult novel, "Beastly" is set in Manhattan and will start its shooting in Montreal on June 13. It tells the story of a handsome rich kid with a mean streak. But after ditching a date, he is cursed and turned into everything he hates. With the new and grotesque appearance, he is given the seemingly impossible task of finding true love in order to break off from the spell.

Mary-Kate Olsen was last seen playing on the big screen in "The Wackness" after previously starring in "Factory Girl". Alex Pettyfer, meanwhile, has played in such films as "Tormented", "Wild Child" and "Stormbreaker".
