Third 'Hobbit' Movie Gets Retitled 'The Battle of the Five Armies'

The third and last installment of Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" movie series gets a new title. Announcing the title change is the director himself on Facebook. Initially called "The Hobbit: There and Back Again", the movie which is due December 17 this year is now titled "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies".

The Hobbit solo adventure was initially planned to be turned into two movies only, with "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" coming first before concluding with "There and Back Again". But they eventually split the story into three parts, calling the second entry "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" while keeping "There and Back Again" as a tentative title for the last installment.

Avril Lavigne laughs off allegation that her colorful "Hello Kitty" music video which is set in Tokyo and features Asian females as backup dancers is racist. Contrary to what some of the critics said, the Canadian singer insists that she meant it as an homage.

"RACIST??? LOLOLOL!!! I love Japanese culture and I spend half of my time in Japan. I flew to Tokyo to shoot this video...," she tweeted. "...specifically for my Japanese fans, WITH my Japanese label, Japanese choreographers AND a Japanese director IN Japan."

Beyonce Knowles lands the coveted spot on the front page of Time magazine for its 2014 "Most Influential People" issue. "She's the boss," gushes Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, applauding the singer for "[raising] her voice both on- and offstage to urge women to be independent and lead."

Video: 'The Simpsons' Teases Lego Episode

"The Simpsons" is getting a Lego treatment in its upcoming episode, which has been previewed in a video. The snippet shows Homer freaking out at the reflection of his Lego version in the mirror and accidentally pulling off Marge's hand. He additionally tells someone, "Kiss my flat, plastic butt."

The episode titled "Brick Like Me" will air Sunday, May 4 at 8/7c on FOX. The 550th episode of the animated series will see Homer Simpson waking up in a Springfield where everyone and everything is made out of Legos. He then must "put together" how he got there and figure out how to get home before he gets stuck in a world of bricks forever.

George Clooney, who is a supporter of President Obama, and Steve Wynn recently had a heated exchange after the casino developer insulted the president. The pair's argument, which ended up with Clooney storming off a dinner, took place during at Botero restaurant inside Wynn's Encore hotel in Las Vegas two weeks ago.

"There were 9 people at that table ... So you can ask them ... Steve likes to go on rants ... HE called the president an a**hole ... that is a fact," Clooney explained the incident in a statement released to media via his publicist. "I said that the President was my longtime friend and then he said 'your friend is an a**hole'... At that point I told Steve that HE was an a**hole and that I wasn't going to sit at his table while he was being such a jack**s. And I walked out."

J.K. Rowling's "The Casual Vacancy" will be brought onto the small screen. The first book for adult readership from the "Harry Potter" author, the novel will be adapted into a three-hour miniseries on HBO and BBC.

The story centers on Pagford, a seemingly idyllic English village whose history and quaintness are balanced only by its citizens' duplicitous nature. After the death of Parish Councillor Barry Fairbrother, a war breaks out before the election for his successor takes place. Those running for a place soon find their darkest secrets revealed on the Parish Council online forum, ruining their campaign and leaving the election in turmoil.

The movie is due May 23 Stateside. It follows the mutants joining forces with their younger selves in a fight for survival. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are back playing the older Prof. X and Magneto, while James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender return to play the younger ones.

Coldplay teams up with NBC to bring a new experience of enjoying their concert on the small screen. The band has announced a one-hour concert special titled "Coldplay: Ghost Stories" which will air Sunday, May 18, at 7 P.M. ET/PT on the network.

To premiere one day before their sixth studio album "Ghost Stories" hits the stores, the TV special will feature new songs from their latest album, including "Magic", "Viva La Vida", "Paradise" and "Clocks". It was filmed in March when the band played the album to an audience of 800 in Los Angeles.

Michael Jackson's Doctor Conrad Murray Denied Appeal

Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson's doctor who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 in the death of the King of Pop, tried to appeal the conviction but it was denied. As reported by Reuters, the California Supreme Court refused to review the case on Wednesday, April 23.

An attorney for the disgraced doctor, however, said that they would not stop trying to clear Murray's name and intended to bring the case to federal court. "I think that especially with a non-sequestered jury in a high-profile case that's televised, it's impossible to get a fair trial," Valerie Wass said. She also mentioned that social media and the internet might influence the jury's decision.

Chris Brown Heads Back to Jail as His Assault Trial Is Delayed

Chris Brown apparently has to stay in jail for a bit longer. The R&B singer, who is accused of hitting a man outside a hotel in Washington D.C. in October, was scheduled to stand trial on Wednesday, April 23. The trial, however, has been delayed. NBC4 reports that no specific date has been set.

Brown's bodyguard Christopher Hollosy, who was arrested for an assault charge along with the singer, was found guilty in a separate trial earlier this week and his sentencing is scheduled for June 25. Hollosy, who is scheduled to testify in Brown's case, refused to testify out of fear of self-incrimination because he planned to appeal his own conviction. Prosecutors did not grant Hollosy's request for immunity because they believe he might lie. The appeal may take months.

Sony Pics Developing a Barbie Live-Action Comedy

Barbie is getting her own big screen treatment. Sony Pictures has struck a deal with the toy company Mattel and producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald to develop a live-action comedy around the fashion doll as a potential new franchise.

Deadline reported that the project would be overseen by the studio chief herself Amy Pascal and production president Hannah Minghella. The script will be provided by Jenny Bicks who co-wrote "Rio 2". Production is expected to begin before the year's end.
