Artist of the Week: Garth Brooks

Week 51 of 2013

Garth Brooks

has proven that he's still one of the biggest country superstars in the world. The crooner, who turns 52 next February, recently showed that he still had the power to beat younger musicians when he returned with his new box set, "".

The six-CD and two-DVD set features Brooks' songs as well as his cover versions of songs by artists who have influenced him, such as , Gladys Knight & The Pips and . "None of them are better than the originals. But they were fun to do," Brooks said as cited by Associated Press last month.

"Blame It All on My Roots" arrived late last month and is exclusively available on Wal-Mart. Selling 164,000 copies in less than four days since being released, it debuted at Billboard 200's No. 3 earlier this month but eventually ascended to No. 1 in its second week.

Brooks' latest release is not the only present from the star for his fans. 's husband has also announced that he'll be hitting the road again next year. During his visit to "" last week, the singer made the unexpected announcement.

"I would love to but at 52, I'm worried it's the wheelchair and walker tour kinda-thing," Brooks told the show's host, Robin Roberts. "You know what, since it's you and since we've had a history forever, let's announce it. We're going on a world tour in 2014."

Brooks' upcoming tour will be his first since 2000, when he decided to spend more time with his family. "It sure feels good to get to throw your hat back in the ring. All my babies are fine with it. Ms. Yearwood is fine with it. So, now I get to do what I love to do, which is play music. I get to be with the person I want to be with, which is Ms. Yearwood," he added.

When chatting with the hosts of "", Brooks detailed his tour plan. "The whole goal in life is to make whatever you've done before look small," he said. "So, the 2014 world tour will be the first of probably a three-year world tour. I'm excited. I'm very excited."

In a newer interview, Brooks promised that fans could hear his new music on the highly-anticipated tour. "The world tour is all going to be the stuff you know Garth from and all the new stuff that's coming. I can't tell you how excited I am about that. It's a new tour. New Garth music that I hope gets treated like the old stuff," he told radio.com.
