AceShowbiz - Funnyman Steve Martin is adamant he will never return to stand-up comedy, because he no longer has the stamina to keep up with the "young man's gig". The 65-year-old "Father of the Bride" star began his career on the live comedy circuit in the 1970s and went on to land guest spots on top U.S. shows "Saturday Night Live" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" starring Johnny Carson.

But he decided to turn his back on the industry after making a name for himself in Hollywood, and Martin insists he has no desire to stage a comeback because the life of a stand-up comic is too lonely.

Appearing on U.S. talk show "The View" on Thursday, March 17, he said, "I'm done with that. That's a young man's gig, it's very trying. I was in my 30s and I did it for about seven years before that and it's a very lonely life because you're alone on stage... [and] you're essentially alone all the time."

Martin has since broadened his talents and established himself as an author, movie star and banjo-playing bluegrass musician.
