Kayti Edwards, who resides in Joshua Tree, California, confirmed to The Sun on Sunday that her daughter Ever is the child of Elijah Allman, the son of Cher and her late second husband Gregg Allman. Kayti explained that she and Cher spoke over the phone last year when rumors about the granddaughter began to circulate within the family.

“I had to confess,” Kayti told the publication. “She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021 but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk. When she heard the news, she was speechless.” Cher reportedly reached out to Kayti after hearing whispers from Elijah himself, who had mentioned the possibility of fathering a child but had never confirmed it definitively with his mother.

According to Kayti, Cher expressed a mix of surprise and joy, saying she was “finally a grandma.” Kayti and Elijah had known each other for years and were briefly romantically involved in 2010. She said their one night together resulted in her pregnancy but that Elijah was clear from the beginning that he did not want to take on the role of a father.

Kayti shared that Elijah would occasionally “pop in every couple of years” just to say hello, but he never took full responsibility or became actively involved in Ever’s upbringing. Elijah Allman’s struggles with drug addiction have been public knowledge since 2023, when Cher filed for an emergency conservatorship over him. In court documents, she stated that her son was “substantially unable to manage his own financial resources due to mental health issues,” shedding light on the severity of his condition.

In June 2025, Elijah suffered a drug overdose and was hospitalized. Kayti said she had seen him shortly before the incident and noticed he “wasn’t well.” It was only after this overdose that Cher reached out to Kayti and Ever, inviting them to her Malibu home.
