AceShowbiz - Saturday Night Live is debuting a new short-form digital series titled The Rundown, inviting current and former cast members to curate their ideal episode from over 50 years of iconic sketches and musical performances. The series will be available on Peacock, YouTube, and SNL’s official social channels.

The concept of The Rundown involves cast members selecting standout moments to assemble a fantasy episode on the show’s rundown board. The inaugural episode features Colin Jost, the longtime "Weekend Update" anchor, who emphasizes both the importance and challenge of delivering a successful cold open sketch.

Jost explains that the cold open is notoriously difficult because the atmosphere before the live show often feels “ice-cold.” After a warm-up comedian finishes, the in-house band plays about 10 minutes of jazz music while the crew prepares to go live at 11:30 p.m. ET. According to him, performers who manage to get the audience laughing early demonstrate a significant skill in both writing and performing.

During his SNL tenure, Jost estimates he has written roughly 100 cold opens. For his selection on The Rundown, he chose a memorable sketch from season 34 in 2008. This particular cold open featured Tina Fey and Amy Poehler portraying Sarah Palin and Katie Couric in a parody of their real-life CBS News interview. The sketch was penned by Seth Meyers.

The Rundown will release new episodes on Wednesdays when Saturday Night Live is off-air and will continue through mid-June. Upcoming installments will spotlight favorites chosen by Dana Carvey, Mikey Day, Chloe Fineman, Bowen Yang, and Questlove, among others.

Meanwhile, SNL’s next live broadcast is scheduled for April 4, with actor Jack Black as host and musician Jack White performing as the musical guest.
