AceShowbiz - Megyn Kelly frequently shares her takes on current events and media coverage through her podcast. Recently, she faced sharp criticism from NewsNation host Chris Cuomo regarding her handling of a sensitive ongoing investigation, prompting Kelly to respond publicly on social media.
Megyn Kelly is a well-known political commentator and media personality, currently hosting The Megyn Kelly Show on SiriusXM. She gained national recognition during her tenure at Fox News from 2004 to 2017, where she anchored programs such as America Live and The Kelly File.
In a recent social media post, Kelly discussed the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of journalist Savannah Guthrie, in Tucson, Arizona. In her commentary, she criticized certain news outlets for spreading conspiracy theories related to the case.
However, this coverage drew a rebuke from Chris Cuomo. On X (formerly Twitter), Cuomo posted, "It is shameful to play this story for clickbait and hint that videos are fake and the family is in focus. Don’t know if this is payback for NBC paying Kelly to GTFO but it is pretty obvious and ugly."
During his show, Cuomo further accused “sloppy influencers” and “would-be sleuths” of exploiting the case for “clicks and rage bait,” implicitly targeting Kelly and others covering the story in a sensationalized manner.
In response, Kelly addressed Cuomo’s remarks on her podcast, including a clip of his comments. She stated, "He’s very upset that Ashleigh Banfield and yours truly have raised questions about Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law." She emphasized that in an investigation of this nature, no family member should be automatically excluded from suspicion until evidence proves otherwise.
Kelly and Banfield had speculated about Tommaso Cioni, Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law, as a potential suspect, although authorities have confirmed no suspects have been identified so far.
During her rebuttal, Kelly compared Cuomo to Fredo Corleone, a character from The Godfather, suggesting he reacts negatively to anyone who succeeds, including their show. This personal jab added a sharper edge to the public exchange between the two media figures.
Chris Cuomo joined NewsNation in 2022 after previous stints at CNN and ABC News. His critique of Kelly highlights the often-charged atmosphere surrounding media coverage of high-profile investigations.
This dispute underscores the tensions between media personalities over handling sensitive stories and the fine line between thorough reporting and sensationalism.
