The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are labelled as 'toxic' by the chairwoman of Sentebale amid public dispute following his recent resignation from the organization.

AceShowbiz - After Prince Harry stepped down from his African charity, Sentebale, the head of the organization fired back at the royal. While Harry described the events that led to his exit as "unthinkable," the chairwoman Dr. Sophie Chandauka called the Sussexes "toxic."

"The number one risk for this organization was the toxicity of its lead patron's brand,” she said in an interview with the Financial Times, accusing Harry, 40, and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho of trying to "force a failure and then come to the rescue."

She emphasized decision to move the charity's fundraising operations to Africa. "The way the organization had been set up in 2006, was no longer appropriate in 2023 in a post-Black Lives Matter world," she claimed. "Funders were asking for locally led initiatives."

According to Chandauka, the board was not happy with "a loss of power and control and influence … 'Oh my goodness, the Africans are taking over.' "

Meanwhile, a source close to the patrons and trustees criticized Chandauka's handling of the charity's finances. "The trustees tried to negotiate this privately and requested she consider her position due to their lack of trust and confidence in her as a leader, as demonstrated by the financial position she put the charity in," the source told PEOPLE.

In a separate interview, Chandauka detailed stories behind one viral moment that included Meghan Markle at last year's fundraiser.

She revealed Prince Harry asked her to issue a statement to support his wife following an incident where the former "Suits" actress faced backlash for directing Chandauka to move to the other side away from Harry when they took a group picture on stage at a charity polo event.

Chandauka told UK's Sky News she acknowledged the disorganization at the event, "The choreography went badly on stage because we had too many people on stage," but she refused to clarify what happened.

"Not because I didn't care about the Duchess, but because I knew what would happen if I did so, number one. And number two, because we cannot be an extension of the Sussexes," she explained.

Chandauka also took issue with Harry's request to bring a Netflix camera crew to the fundraiser. His decision to include the event in his Netflix show reportedly disrupted the initial planning and resulted in significant setbacks.

"About a month before the event was about to take place, Prince Harry called the team and said, 'I'm doing a Netflix show, and I would love to bring a camera crew so that I can include some footage in this show.' "

This request necessitated new agreements and consents from property owners, sponsors, and guests, which were not feasible given the additional costs and short notice.

"The venue owner considered this a commercial undertaking and presented terms we simply couldn't afford. As a result, we lost the venue," Chandauka explained.

Prince Harry later managed to secure a new venue for the event scheduled in April 2024, and the rest is history.

Prince Harry resigned from Sentebale along with his pal Prince Seeiso and the board of trustees. This action was described by Chandauka as "a damaging piece of news to the outside world without informing me or my country directors," which she characterized as an "attack" and an example of "harassment and bullying at scale."

In response, Prince Harry's team has dismissed Chandauka's claims of bullying and harassment as "completely baseless."

"They fully expected this publicity stunt and reached their collective decision with this in mind," the source added. "They remain firm in their resignation for the good of the charity and look forward to the adjudication of the truth."
