AceShowbiz - Brenda Song opened up about one of her special holiday traditions that's now ruined. She revealed that she used to watch "Home Alone" during the jolly holiday, but she lost the enjoyment after watching it with her fiance, Macaulay Culkin.
During her appearance on "The Jennifer Hudson Show", the 36-year-old actress, known for her role in "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," shared how her annual ritual of watching the Christmas classic became a memorable - though somewhat spoiled -experience.
"Christmastime came around - and it's a tradition, I've always watched Home Alone every Christmas," Song recalled.
However, this time was different because Culkin, who famously played Kevin McCallister, had not seen the film in almost a decade and was initially reluctant to watch it. "He didn't want to watch it - and I forced it. I was like, 'We have to,' " Song explained.
The reason for Culkin's hesitation soon became clear. As the couple started watching "Home Alone," Culkin began sharing behind-the-scenes stories from the set. "He started telling me all the behind-the-scenes stories. And I was like, 'Stop. Stop. You're ruining it for me,' "Song recalled.
Expressing how those insider tales changed her viewing experience of the beloved movie, she explained, "The movie holds such a special place in obviously so many people's hearts, it's just hard for me, that's all."
"Home Alone," a 1990 Christmas comedy film directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes, follows the story of Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old accidentally left behind by his family during Christmas vacation to Paris.
Kevin must defend his home from two inept burglars, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. The movie's success led to multiple sequels and reboots, cementing its place as a holiday staple for many.
During her interview, Song also revealed more about her relationship with Culkin, touching on some humorous and touching aspects of their life together.
For instance, she mentioned having to teach Culkin how to do laundry, a task he was unfamiliar with due to his unusual upbringing as one of the world's most famous child actors. "He lived and grew up in hotels, he had just never really done laundry," Song said with a chuckle.
Additionally, Song shared the challenge of trying to teach Culkin how to drive. "I took him out to drive in our neighborhood; I was terrified, let me tell you. This 44-year-old man driving for the first time? I gotta hire someone to do that," she joked.
The couple, who began dating in 2017 after meeting through mutual friend Seth Green, are parents to two young boys. Their eldest, Dakota Song Culkin, is named in memory of Culkin's sister who tragically passed away in 2008. The family's heartwarming dynamic and candid anecdotes serve as a reminder that even celebrities have their charmingly relatable moments.
